Theft targeting temples and places of worship is on the rise in the Kalamassery area. Theft was reported at Koonanthai Puthuppillipram Subramanya Swamy Temple around 11:30 pm on Tuesday. Two oil lamps kept inside the temple were stolen. CCTV footage of the thief entering the temple premises and committing the theft has been obtained. Water taps in the temple auditorium were also vandalized. Based on a complaint by temple authorities, Kalamassery police have started an investigation. In the early hours of Monday, items worth Rs 20,000 including oil lamps, hanging lamps and bells along with Rs 3000 cash were stolen from Kalamassery Chullikkavu Durga Bhagavathy Temple. The person who stole copper pipes worth lakhs from the Kalamassery Njalakam Juma Masjid building is yet to be traced.
